babble

If the tower of Babel were just a babbling brook
and the birds of language flapped around overhead
and you lifted your skirt just to test out the temperature

Or if a tiny straw nest was built in your heart
to keep all the muscles and tendons in tact
and you kept it stocked with Polaroids

It would just take a minute to find your coordinates
the latitude-longitude of your tiny two feet
It would just take a second to reassure order
cause your heart is a globe and my heart is the sea

If you built a skyscraper made just out of Blue
and the flowers that grew in the concrete took over
and all of the love you ever had got trapped inside

Or if you sat on an anchor in the depths of it all
just waiting for anything to suddenly burst
so that with quiet combustion you could float your own way back up

I would say, “Just think of me. I’ll think of you.”

If you drew a treasure map all over your skin
of bright blue vein rivers and faded ink highways
just hoping the next one would come & conquer you

Or if the ground all around you was a graveyard of hay
and they planted you there to grow up like a weed
and you burst into flames every other day

It would just take a minute to find your coordinates
the latitude-longitude of your tiny two feet
It would just take a second to reassure order
cause your heart is a globe and my heart is the sea
