space camp

I was digging out trenches through stars for my path
to keep myself safe from our meteor bath
you were down on the ground, asking me to come down
saying I'd never make it on uncharted ground

every time we sit down & figure shit out
we just flounder until we give up, the lights out
& go back to the camp that we made out of skin
& the trails that we followed to find our way in
to the easy quick spark of cellestial lock
orion's thick belt & soft pillow talk
my sweet shot in the dark launched me up to the sky
& I stayed for awhile, but it just wouldn't fly

dear darling,
I think that we should call this thing quits
I've been floating free form, lonely, waiting for this
this small thing
that flew right past my radar but managed to stick
I made my first mistake when I tried to get gravity back on my side

(I said) the rings of your eyes were the reason I stayed
& you just liked the heat that my close body gave
never understood my fascination with naming
the sweet constellations between your shoulderblades
I got stuck in the air, my face burrowed in there
every time you slow rolled me onto my side
& I gave you my eyes & my shooting star thighs
& waited for you to materialise

dear darling,
I think that we should call this thing quits
I've been floating free form, lonely, waiting for this
this small thing
that flew right past my radar but managed to stick
I made my first mistake when I tried to get gravity back on my side

so I've dried out your roses & tossed up the leaves
to the void where we started by learning to breathe
& the rest are in beer bottles where you belong
cause in each one I open's another new song
'bout my heroine quest from the ground to the sky
& my many attempts to figure out why
if I loved you with all of my earth & my fire
you gave me insatiable wind & deep water

dear darling,
I think that we should call this thing quits
I've been floating free form, lonely, waiting for this
this small thing
that flew right past my radar but managed to stick
I made my first mistake when I tried to get gravity back on my side

(I could never hold you,
I was never big enough to hold you
& you're back to sleeping upside down
so I'm going to buy a used rocketship & skip this grey town)
